The landmark Strand Hotel Yangon joins Dusit Collection, while ASAI Yangon Sule brings the group's locally inspired lifestyle brand to the heart of the city

Bangkok, Thailand, 5 November 2026 – Dusit Hotels and Resorts, the hotel arm of Dusit International, one of Thailand’s leading hotel and property development companies, has officially opened two hotels in Yangon, Myanmar, offering two distinct experiences that build on the properties’ established identities while introducing the group's approach to Thai-inspired gracious hospitality.

Now welcoming guests under Dusit’s management, the hotels are The Strand Hotel Yangon – Dusit Collection, a celebrated historic landmark which has joined Dusit's luxury Dusit Collection brand, and ASAI Yangon Sule, a contemporary lifestyle hotel that puts travellers close to the flavours, culture, and everyday rhythms of downtown Yangon.

Originally opened in 1901 and subsequently acquired by the Sarkies brothers, the pioneering hoteliers associated with Raffles Singapore and the Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Penang, Malaysia, The Strand Hotel has been part of Yangon's social and cultural history for 125 years.

Located on Strand Road near the Yangon River, the three-storey hotel is renowned for its Victorian-era architecture, soaring ceilings, polished Burmese teak floors, and marble detailing. Careful restoration over the years, supported by local artisans, has preserved many of its original features, complemented by traditional lacquerware, handcrafted rattan furnishings, and artworks reflecting Myanmar's cultural heritage. Its historical significance was formally recognised in 2019 when it became the first hotel in Myanmar to receive a commemorative blue plaque from the Yangon Heritage Trust.

Reflecting the Dusit Collection brand's emphasis on distinctive properties, rich heritage, and highly personalised experiences, The Strand Hotel Yangon – Dusit Collection retains the character and intimate atmosphere that have distinguished it for generations.

The hotel features just 32 suites, ranging from the 55 sq m Junior Suite to the 200 sq m Strand Suite, which includes a four-poster bed, expansive living areas, and a private dining room for up to eight guests. Each suite pairs the building’s historic architecture with contemporary comforts, complemented by dedicated 24-hour butler service – a hallmark of The Strand and a distinction currently unmatched by any other hotel in Yangon.

Dining has long been an integral part of The Strand experience, a tradition that continues as the hotel joins Dusit Collection.

The Strand Café serves Burmese specialities and international favourites alongside the hotel's longstanding Strand High Tea tradition. Meanwhile, Sarkies Bar, named after the hotel's former owners, offers classic cocktails, single malt whiskies, and a selection of grilled dishes and sharing plates in an intimate, wood-panelled setting.

Further enhancing the hotel’s culinary offering, The Strand Restaurant is set to open later this year, offering an elevated Burmese fine dining experience with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. Its elegant dining room features ornate chandeliers, marble-inlaid floors, and traditional lacquer panels from Bagan, Myanmar’s ancient temple city. The restaurant will accommodate 45 guests, with a private dining room seating a further 10.

Elsewhere, guests can unwind by the outdoor swimming pool or enjoy the hotel's fitness facilities, spa, and landscaped courtyard.

For larger occasions, The Strand’s historic grandeur provides a memorable backdrop for weddings, corporate functions, and social celebrations. The 760 sq m Strand Hall, with its impressive proportions and elegant interiors, accommodates up to 720 guests for banquets, while The Strand Garden and private dining spaces offer more intimate venues for smaller gatherings.

Guests can also explore Myanmar's cultural heritage through a selection of immersive experiences, including an introduction to traditional musical instruments with a local master musician, period Burmese costume photography, and floral artistry workshops led by local artisans. Hands-on cooking sessions with the hotel's local chef offer another opportunity to discover Myanmar’s culinary traditions.

Complementing The Strand’s heritage-led luxury, ASAI Yangon Sule, meanwhile, offers a contemporary lifestyle experience centred on thoughtfully designed accommodation, social dining, and connections with the surrounding neighbourhood.

Located on Alan Pya Pagoda Street in downtown Yangon, the hotel occupies the former Thamada Hotel, which was relaunched as a contemporary lifestyle property in 2017. Reflecting ASAI Hotels' Live Local philosophy, it places guests within easy reach of Yangon Central Railway Station, Bogyoke Aung San Market, the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda, and the city’s historic streets and local eateries.

Designed for comfort and convenience, the hotel's 85 guestrooms range from 15 to 30 sq m, featuring efficient layouts, contemporary amenities, and city or courtyard views.

At street level, Babette Eatery & Bar serves Western comfort food in a relaxed setting with an outdoor terrace, welcoming guests and local residents for casual dining, drinks, and social gatherings. The venue can also accommodate private events by advance arrangement. Other facilities include a fully equipped fitness centre and a community lounge for working and informal gatherings.

Reflecting its emphasis on local discovery, ASAI Yangon Sule also offers immersive experiences ranging from hands-on Myanmar tea-making workshops and introductions to Lethwei, the country's traditional form of boxing, to guided meditation sessions rooted in Burmese Buddhist practices. Guests can also explore the city's heritage through guided walks and discover local culinary traditions through street-food tastings.

“Bringing The Strand Hotel Yangon – Dusit Collection and ASAI Yangon Sule into our portfolio is an opportunity to celebrate two very different aspects of Yangon,” said Mr Chanin Donavanik, Group CEO, Dusit International. “The Strand has an extraordinary history and a character that deserves to be carefully preserved, while ASAI offers a contemporary experience shaped by the neighbourhood around it. Our priority is to support the teams who bring these hotels to life, maintain the qualities that make each one special, and deliver the thoughtful, gracious hospitality for which Dusit is known. We look forward to welcoming guests and contributing to the next chapter of both properties.”

To celebrate the openings, both hotels are offering special introductory packages.
