Dusit showcases the future of sustainable MICE business with innovative trip to Hua Hin

Unique ‘Listen to the Earth in Silence’ event at Dusit Thani Hua Hin demonstrates how resorts can safely and sustainably host events in the new normal – with some technological surprises.

Dusit recently partnered with silent live concert specialists Sounds of Earth, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) and the Thai Chamber of Commerce to host an exclusive event designed to showcase how events and functions can be held safely, responsibly and sustainably in the new normal while delivering meaningful experiences for guests.

Called ‘Listen to the Earth in Silence’ – the exclusive event was held on Friday October 2 at Dusit Thani Hua Hin and was attended by travel industry specialists and high-ranking diplomats.

The programme focused on low-impact, eco-friendly travel methods, community-focused activities, wellness-focused cuisine, and innovative solutions for events and functions which Dusit, the TAT and TCEB believe will be central to facilitating responsible MICE travel in a post COVID-19 world.

The unique event began with a ‘carbon-saving’ private train journey from Bangkok, which also featured a healthy lunch expertly catered for by Dusit Events.

Created exclusively for the occasion by Chef Aum from Le Cordon Bleu Dusit Culinary School, the special menu featured famous dishes and ingredients from destinations along the route. Khao Pad Rot Fai Moo Grob (Fried Rice with Crispy Pork), Yam Som O (Spicy pomelo salad with king prawns), and Palm juice ice cream were just some of the tasty highlights.

Upon arrival in Hua Hin, the VIP guests visited a local marine centre where they helped to release baby crabs to the wild. They then enjoyed a Silent Happy Hour from the comfort of their balconies, where, via wireless headsets, they listened to a poolside performance by Sounds of Earth’s multi-talented founder Khun John Rattanaveroj (of Nuvo band fame).

The same technology was used in the evening for the Silent Moon Party, where, alongside a delicious feast highlighting ingredients from the hotel’s organic farm, guests enjoyed a beachside concert by Khun John and his longtime collaborator – and national heartthrob – Khun Saharat ‘Kong’ Sangkapreecha, and new band Venn. Dusit’s Group CEO, Khun Suphajee, and the President of the Thailand Hotels Association, Khun Marisa Sukosol, also took to the stage to showcase their vocal talents – all broadcasted wirelessly via Sounds of Earth’s headsets to keep noise to a minimum.

After a tranquil full moon sound bath on the beach, guests retired to their rooms for a good night’s sleep before waking bright and early for a fun run to the hotel’s impressive organic farm.

Fuelling up with a healthy breakfast, they then learned about Dusit’s hybrid meeting models that facilitate small and safe gatherings while leveraging technology for secure, reliable and instant global reach.

The demonstration included a meeting room equipped as a high-end recording, live-streaming and presentation studio with the latest audio-visual equipment for worldwide broadcasting. This included a multi-screen set up which allows for real-time interactions with remote event participants; a green screen backdrop for high-definition virtual backgrounds; and dedicated professional event specialists to ensure swift and seamless connectivity.

Members of Dusit’s global sales team all called in for the demonstration – even those whose time zones put them at three o’clock in the morning. Talk about dedication!

Similar virtual meeting solutions will be rolled out at other Dusit properties in Thailand, and will also be available for offsite functions catered for by Dusit Events.
